“Honey,” Rachael shook her husband, “please tell them Nora is our baby.”

Meanwhile, Joe sat quietly watching them. He felt bad his beloved Rachael now belongs to another man. He still loved her passionately in his heart despite the years they have been apart. He had hoped she would would return to him and reconcile and then they will be together again. But what he had seen few hours earlier points another way. It was very clear Nosa loved Rachael too and he had to accept his fate from now on.

Nosa shook his head “I’m so sorry honey” he said looking at his wife, ” she’s not our blood.”

As quick as lightening, Rachael got up from her seat. Her face displayed anger.

“What the hell are you talking about Nosa. Were you not there when I was in the labour ward? Aren’t you the one who even brought her to me when I regained consciousness?” she asked in tears. “I breast fed her and saw her grew and we both never left her side for twenty four years and you tell me she’s not our blood. What’s this nonsense?”

“I’m sorry Rachael, I never wanted you to go through this pain, you were too weak and the doctors told me hours later when you went to the operation room that your life and the baby’s life was at stake. They had to save one of you or I stand the chance of losing you both. So I signed for the doctors to save your life first and we lost our baby.”

“Oh my God!” Rachael cried. ” All these years I’ve been living in hoarse that I gave birth to Nora? Oh God! Why all these?”. She sat back.

“Who is Nora’s mother Nosa?” she asked with a stern voice not looking at her husband.

Nosa continued, “Well after I was told the baby died, the doctor who operated you had another operation done on another woman. She was brought in an hour after you and unfortunately she didnt make it but the baby did. The doctor told me the woman was alone and from the records she had signed to give up the child for adoption when the baby will be born. She had no family and she had no idea who the father was. So I agreed to adopt Nora and take her as our own. I didnt want you to be sad over the child we lost so I kept it as a secret, the only person I told this was my father. He didnt support my idea at first but he had no choice since we had already taken the baby and started raising her as our own”. He explained while they all listened quietly.

“Oh Nosa! You should have told me this.” Rachael cried.

Nosa hugged his wife. “I’m sorry”

Joe spoke for the first time. “Well, it seems all the secrets are now coming out finally and the good part of all these is that Nora and Nathan didn’t commit incest.” He commented looking at his son whose face was expressionless.

“Yeah I didnt have the chance to say anything before.” Nosa responded,

“Everything happened so fast and I’m also glad there’s some positives out of this story after all.” He smiled and looked at Nathan.

Nathan remained quite as they kept talking. His mind was focused on finding a solution to Nora’s condition. Now more than ever he needed her alive. He couldn’t wait to see her smile again and tell her he was free to have her again.

“Son!” Joe called him, “Are you not going to say anything? ” he asked him.

“Dad I guess it’s time to find some blood to save Nora’s life and drop the next boom on her,” he said looking at Nosa.

“I’m not sure how she will feel knowing her parents are not real after all,” he added and walked out leaving them all quite in his office.

He went to check on her and an hour later she regained consciousness. He sat beside her and held her hand.

“How are you feeling?”

Nora was surprised seeing Nathan in a doctor’s coat

“Where am I?” She asked looking around. “What am I doing in a hospital?”

“Nora be calm” Nathan pleaded.

“Oh!” Nora relaxed, realizing what happened hours ago.

“I couldn’t let you die on me. I was so scared to lose you.” Nathan told her.

Nora looked away, “I dont just know how to live Nathan, my life is over.”

“Don’t say such things. You have a long and beautiful life ahead of you.” he smiled squeezing her hand. Nora shook her head. “I dont know ” she responded weakly.

“Concentrate on healing then, you’ll get well baby. Believe me.” He told her as the the nurse walked in with a drip of blood and connected it to her. Nathan smiled, “We will end up happy”

He went outside and revealed the news to her parent. “She’s finally gained consciousness and will be fine after receiving some blood” he informed them.

“Thank you God” Rachael sighed looking up.

Nosa hugged her as they sat to wait for the time they would be allowed to go and check on her. All the while, he had been discussing with his wife on all that happened. “We are going to pass through this soon.” He said, rubbing her hand. “Together we shall stand strong and God will help us.”

Joe went out and sat in his vehicle parked outside. He gave his driver some cash and sent him to buy lunch for everyone. Later he got out of the car and sat alone on the pavement looking at the people passing by. He was deep in thought when he slighted Jessy moving towards him.

“Jessy?” he whispered. It had been years since he last set his eyes on her. He wondered what she was doing at the hospital. All her beauty had faded, if he didnt known her well he would not have recognised her. She looked so pale and skinny. He watched her in shock as she came directly to him. lt seemed she was aware of him being there and had expected him there.

He waited until she was close enough. “Jessy?” he called, wanting to be sure.

“Yeah !” she smiled.

“Well well! Guess who the wind has blown in.” he teased extending his hand to greet her.

She gave a fake smile feeling a bit jealous Joe was still looking good and handsome. He actually looked younger than her.

“How are you doing Joe?” she finally said ignoring his statement.

“I’m good ” Joe told her. ” What are you doing here?” he asked looking at her.

“Sorry I still cant stand properly” he told her pointing at the clutches. I had an accident..”

Jessy looked at him for sometime. “I went to your house but was told you are here. I waited for a while but I had to come its important I talk to you.”

Joe looked at her and saw the seriousness in her. “What’s it all about?”

” It’s about your wife Joe,” she paused “Please can we sit somewhere private?”

” You said my wife? ” Joe asked her surprised.

“Nancy?”

“Rachael” she corrected him.

Without uttering another word Joe stood up.

“Well let’s find a better place then” he told her.
