Valerie felt a little nervous as she walked beside the woman during the walk. The woman was holding an empty basket with her and although, it was kind of wierd, but Valerie couldn’t bring herself to help her with it.

She felt so weak and dizzy, her head pounding heavily; so tired and just wanted to rest, but couldn’t. She needed to see Jericho first.

They walked for a long time and came across some people who stared keenly at Valerie

“She’s so beautiful” she’d heard one of them mutter.

They met someone who actually stopped walking.

“Monhana” the elderly man called.
His jaws were covered with white beards.

“Good evening, Papito” The woman bowed and greeted respectfully.

“Yes. Good evening. How’re you doing?” He asked warmly.

“I’m fine Papito. How’re the kids?”

“Oh! They’re doing really well. Who’s this lady with you? Because the last I can remember, you don’t have any other daughter aside….”

“She’s assisting me with some of my work at the palace, Papito. Please don’t worry about it” the woman answered with a smile.

“I see. Okay then, take care of you” the man replied and left, while Valerie and the woman continued walking.

“Thank you” Valerie said after some seconds.
“For helping me”.

“Oh! It’s nothing dear. I just hope you don’t get into trouble” the woman replied, adjusting the basket she held to her ribs.

“Is Jericho the crown Prince?” Valerie suddenly asked after a while and the woman turned to glance at her.

“Um…yes, he is” she paused and sighed.
“The Royal family right now is a little bit messy. Queen has been in bondage for years”.

For years? What’s she talking about? And the Queen? That should be Jericho’s mum, right?

“What do you…. What do you mean?” She asked. “how’s the queen in bondage?”

“It’s a long story dear. She’s been in her room for years, doesn’t go out, doesn’t talk to anyone, hardly eats. She’s more like a shadow of her own self.

“The maids that normally goes to wash her says she normally looks so pale like a ghost and hardly even blinks. It’s just frustrating” the woman explained, getting Valerie really amused.

“But why? What’s wrong with her?’ she asked.

“I don’t know. No one does. Not even her powerful sons has been able to heal her” she shurgged.
“But whatever the case might be, we all pray and hope she gets better soon”.

During the rest of the walk, Valerie was deep in thoughts, thinking about the queen. What could be wrong with her?

After a longer while, they finally got to the palace and it was more like a dream come true for Valerie.

As they walked past the palace gates, her eyes kept dancing around, wondering if she could get a glimpse of Jericho already. Gosh! She was so nervous; so nervous to know how he’d react to the news.

“I don’t know where the prince would be by now. Maybe, in his room, I don’t really know” the woman stated as they walked in, mixing with the little crowd of people.

“But you need to be very careful dear. Don’t make a wrong move else, you might get killed or penalized…”

That was the least of Valerie’s problems as all she wanted at that moment was to set her eyes on Jericho. She needed to see him – badly.

She walked through the crowd with the woman – through the place which seemed like a market place. And after a while, they were out of the crowd and staring at a tall, beautiful building.

“Come on” Monhana muttered as she climbed up the stairs leading to a big door where some guards stood.

“Good evening” Monhana greeted as she stood in front of them.
“You should know me. I’m one of the cleaners and I’m here to….”

“We know you. But who’s the lady beside you?” The guard asked grumpily, making Valerie cringe a little.

“Um… she’s my sister. And she’s here to assist me with some of the work. We’ll be leaving soon”. Monhana replied.

The guards stared at Valerie for a long time with scrutiny. And silently, they opened the big door for them, letting them in.

“I really hope no one suspects you, girl” Monhana muttered as she walked down the long passage with Valerie.
They climbed some more steps, coming across other maidens and workers.

“But do you think I can see Jericho before I leave?” Valerie asked in a husky whisper.

“I don’t know dear. I don’t know. I only promised to take you to the palace. I didn’t say anything about making you see the prince”. Monhana replied in a husky whisper as well.

Valerie looked around, worried. She really wanted to see Jericho. But how does she do it?

“Wh… Where’s his room?” She asked.

“What? And what do you want with his room? You shouldn’t act stupid, girl. If You’re found anywhere close to his room, you’ll be killed for trespassing. A stranger doesn’t just move around in the palace. And only the Royal maids and guards are allowed to go close to the rooms of any member of the Royal family. And that is only when they’re called upon – of course – or have a good reason” she queried, sounding so damn serious.

They got to a room and entered – a room which contained so much clothes .

Valerie was extremely worried already. How does she get to Jericho??

Monhana set out to work immediately, folding the clothes from the floor and putting them into her basket.

There was another door leading to the back and slowly, Valerie walked out to take a look. It was a balcony.

She stood there at the balcony, her heart beating so fast. She felt incomplete, felt she wouldn’t survive it if she didn’t see Jericho at that moment. She just needed to see him and talk to him. What does she do?

She placed her hand on her tummy and stared down at it. God! She felt so incomplete.

“Valerie?” Monhana called from inside the room, but she didn’t make an attempt to reply as her mood had already been ruined

She lifted her eyes and stared down at the last floor and suddenly, they came in contact with a sight that made her heart skip; a sight that made her think she wasn’t breathing anymore

Jericho!!!
