Who is she? Valerie wondered as she stared keenly at the lady who looked like an insane person.

Her hair was ruffled and flopped carelessly around her face, she had to stare through the tiny spaces in-between the hair to be able to have a look at Valerie.

Indeed, she looked a bit scary – to someone like Valerie of course.

Gut who was she? Valerie wondered. And how did she end up there?? She had no idea there was someone in the room the whole time. So, why did Monhana ask her to stay away from the room.

The young lady remained standing there, just staring like a lunatic until Valerie stood up and that was when she flinched and took a step back.
She got scared!

Valerie wanted to say something to her, tell her to calm down, or perhaps, ask who she was. But somehow, she couldn’t. She couldn’t say a word.
And just then, Monhana walked in, holding a small round bowl.

She flinched at the sight in front of her.

“Rika!” She called in fright and hurried towards her.
Valerie was watching keenly.

“Hey, come on; come on; you shouldn’t be out here okay? She’s just a visitor. You should go into your room”. Monhana cooed as she held her and led her carefully to the room.

Huh? What’s going on?

Valerie returned to the seat, still thinking hard about it. Who could that young lady be? And why did she look that way? Why did Monhana flinch on seeing her out of the room as well? She couldn’t understand it.

Monhana replied almost immediately, looking relieved.

“Hi dear. Sorry I took so long. Here, you can have this” she handed the small bowl to Valerie who collected it reluctantly.
It contained something that looked like pap.

“Thank you” Valerie muttered and dropped it down on the wooden table in front and her, while Monhana also took a seat.

“Who’s she?” Valerie suddenly asked, unable to contend the confusion any longer.

Monhana sighed pathetically.

“I knew you were going to ask” she hesitated.

She turned back to glance at the door, then looked back at Valerie

“That is Rika – my daughter”.

Valerie’s jaws dropped in shock
Whaaat??? Her daughter???? How???

“She used to be a cheerful lively girl, but not until the death of her sister and she became this way. Her sister was just 3 years older than her. They grew up together, always there for each other and loved each other soo very much. The bond between them was too great. But two years ago, Inka died. She died in an accident and that left my dear Rika in a bad mental condition. She became isolated, always demanding to see her sister. And gradually, she became more of a lunatic.

“Sometimes, when she sees people she doesn’t like, she ends up throwing things at them, or fighting them. She just became an isolated lady and it hurts me so much. She’s 21”.

Monhana paused to sniffle, making it so obvious the story was hurting her badly.

“She’s all I have left, you know?” She continued, more ruefully.
“I lost my husband already, lost Inka my first daughter and now,Rika is the only thing I have left. I’ve taken her to so many doctors, but neither of them could help and I’m losing all hope already. I feel so …”

A tear dropped from her eye – a tear that shattered Valerie’s heart.
Goodness! It was such a pathetic story.

Slowly, she drew closer to Monhana and touched her palm.

“I’m so sorry” she cooed, rubbing the back of her Palm gently
“But I believe you should have hope. Everything will be fine”.

“Of course; of course. I do have hope” Monhana sniffed.
“I just.. I really hope it happens soon because it’s been 2 years already”.

She paused and sniffed again.
“You should take your meal,dear.. It’s more enjoyable when it’s hot”. She said and Valerie looked back at her meal and took it up.
It looked like pap.

She scooped in a spoon, then another. It tasted nice, but somehow, her hormones wouldn’t let her go on with it. So, she just dropped it back on the table.

“We need to talk about your going back to earth, dear” Monhana said.
“You can’t stay here for too long because your life would be at risk. How can you leave?”

Valerie was silent for a little while. Then, looking up at Monhana, she asked:
“If at all, I can get the staff, how do I use it to get home?”

“Well, as soon as you get the staff , all you have to do is hold it, mention the name of your home and that’s it. You’ll be taken home immediately” Monhana replied.

“And you said… this staff can only be found in the palace?” Valerie asked.

“Yes dear. In the palace – a place that would be really difficult to get to. I can’t even risk doing it myself”.

There was a brief pause, then:
“What if I try to do it myself?” Valerie asked.
“What if I… just find a way to get into the palace so I can get the staff. Wouldn’t that work out?”

“Whaaat?? What’re you talking about? You can’t get into the palace. You saw what happened today. Commoners aren’t allowed in …”

“Then, what if I don’t go as a commoner?” Valerie chipped in.
“What if I decide to go as…as a maid or something?”
