“Why are you here, Sylvia?” Jericho asked casually as he walked over to his table, acting like nothing had happened.

But, Sylvia was still in shock as she stared down at the lifeless body of the guard on the floor.

Jericho had gotten to the table and taken what he wanted – a book, which he started flipping it’s pages.

“Do you really have nothing to say, Sylvia?” He asked again and she forced herself to look at him.

“I told you I was the one who insisted on coming in. Did you really have to kill him?” She finally asked, her voice sounding so heavy.

“He violated my order, Sylvia. It doesn’t matter if you insisted or not. Now, for the last time, what do you want? I’m having a meeting in less than an hour”. He answered grumpily.

Sylvia glanced at the guard’s body on the floor. She was no saint, but she wasn’t this evil either.
She couldn’t believe someone just lost his life because of her.

“Well…” She exhaled deeply, trying to swallow it down.
“I only wanted to tell you your son has been requesting to see you. And…. I wanted to know the right time to bring him over so he doesn’t have to walk in and see his father having someone’s head in his hands”.

Jericho said nothing immediately as he took a seat in front of his table took a plain sheet and his blue inked feather, then began scribbling down on the sheet.

“I’ll communicate my convenient time to you, Sylvia; don’t worry about it”. He said with his entire gaze focused on what he was writing.

“And when will that be? Maybe in a year?” She scoffed.

“I’ll do it before evening”. Jericho replied and a few seconds of silence stepped in.

“Jericho” Sylvia sighed.
“You should never forget the fact he’s our only son – for now. I don’t like how you neglect him”.

“Watch your words, Sylvia; I’ll never neglect any child of mine. Perhaps, things would’ve been different if you weren’t so ashamed of who I am” he’d paused to glance at her before taking his eyes back to the sheet.

“What’re you talking about?” Sylvia chuckled.
“You should know I’d never be ashamed of you, I love you more than anything, Jericho; I just don’t want our son to see the beastly side of you and think you to be a ….”

“Well, unfortunately Sylvia, I can never be changed. You know who I am; I’m the angel of darkeness; evil is all I see. No one can change that”. He answered coldly, and Sylvia shook her head and turned around like she was about heading for the door.
She was just so tired already.

She’ took three steps towards the door but suddenly stopped and looked at him.

“The necklace I’d given to you before your journey to earth”, she said.
“The one meant for luck, did you say you’d misplaced it on earth?”

Jericho’s hands stopped moving on the sheet immediately, tho he didn’t lift his gaze to look at her.

“Yes” he replied.

“Are you sure?” Sylvia asked and that was when he looked at her.

“Of course, I’m sure. What about it?” He asked curiously, but she shook her head and continued towards the door.

“Sylvia” he called, making her stop.
“Why did you ask?”

She hesitated a little, before proceeding.

“It’s nothing. Don’t worry about it” she muttered, got to the door and left.

Valerie and Monhana stood in front of the plump woman who asked them to wait till she finished up her tea.

Valerie could feel her throat lunging for some as she watched the woman gulp down the milky liquid. She suddenly had a strong urge to just whisk the cup from her and gulp it down.

Gosh! She couldn’t tell what was wrong with her.; Why she was having some uncontrollable appetite for what the woman was taking.

Madame Nana – who was the chief of staff – didn’t spare them a glance until she’d gulped every single drop and placed the empty cup in front of her.

“So”, she began, adjusting on her seat.
“You said you wanted her to become a maid, right?”

“Yes, Nana. It’d really go a long way for us”. Monhana replied, having the desperate look on.

“I see. And who’s she to you?” Madame Nana asked.

“She’s my late sister’s daughter. I told you this yesterday”. Monhana answered quickly.
And Nana diverted her gaze to Valerie.

“What’s your name, pretty one?” She asked.

‘”it’s Fiona” Valerie answered timidly, trying to let go of her deep American accent.
If it wasn’t for Jericho who had taught her to be humble, she wondered what she would have done by now ….

“Fiona. Nice name” Nana nodded.

“Alright dear. You’re hired”. She stood up.
“Come with me; We have so much to do in the kitchen today as a royal meeting is coming up. Hurry up….”
