Okoro cleared his throat as his three beautiful daughters stare up at him. They had just finished having their evening meal together and the girls had nagged and begged their father, Okoro, to tell them one of his beautiful stories.
“Once upon a time there lived a hunter called Ajakasi. Many hunters lived in his village. Some hunters used guns, some used bows and arrows, others used sticks and cutlasses to do their hunting.
Ajakasi went on a hunting expedition early one morning. He went deep into the bush. He wondered around all day long, but the bush seemed deserted, and by late afternoon he had not even seen a bird. He was terribly tired and hungry. He decided to go back home. Just as he was about to turn back, he heard an unusual sound coming from somewhere in the distance. He listened carefully, thinking he finally got lucky; he hard peeap peeap peeap uuwuurgh oowuurgh uuuwuurgh.
He said to himself, goodness, that sounds like a big animal, maybe even a lion, I’ll sneak up carefully and see if I can find it. He headed in the direction from which the sound was coming, and soon he came upon a clearing in the forest, and right there in the middle of the clearing was a big hole. He approached gingerly, and craned his neck so as to be able to see inside the pit, and what did he see?
He saw a lion.
Instinctively he jumped back, then after collecting his nerves, he approached the hole again, and craned his neck so as to be able to see inside the pit; then he saw a snake in the same pit! And he saw a man, crouching in one of the corners. Ajakasi couldn’t help but wonder what was happening down there, why was the lion not eating the man?
Then he also saw a rat! He couldn’t believe is eyes, so there was a lion down there, and a huge snake, and a man and a rat!
The lion was he first to spot Ajakasi. Please Mr Hunter, get me out of this pit! I‘m terribly hungry! Ajakasi shook his head, and with a trembling voice, said: I’m really sorry Mr Lion, but I can’t do that! A hungry lion? How can I pull you out? As soon as I get you up here you’re going to have me for your lunch!
The lion growled in response. Don’t you think I could have eaten this man here, he asked. Or the snake, or the rat? We all agreed not to eat each other but to stick together, so that we might all get out of here. I guarantee that if you help us you will be safe
The man in the pit joined in: Please Mr Hunter, believe us, the lion is telling the truth, please get us out of here, please help us. The snake joined in, hissing, and the rat was squeaking. The hunter was touched.
All right, he said, all right, I’ll help you. Just hold on while I find something. He went into the trees, and found the longest possible rope, he tied one end to the nearest tall tree, and pulled it hard to test it. When he was satisfied that it would be strong enough to pull all those creatures out of the pit. He threw the loose end into the hole. And who was the first to come out? Of course, the lion, the snake came out next, and then the rat and finally the man crawled to the surface. The lion gave Ajakasi a heavy handshake. Ouch, screamed Ajakasi, you’ve hurt me! That was painful! Is that how you’re going to thank me?
No, no, no, no, said the lion, Thank you very much indeed, Mr Hunter, I will see you again. With that the lion disappeared into the jungle. The snake thanked him too, and slithered away. The man thanked him, and ran off.
The rat was the last to thank him; I won’t forget your kindness, he said before scurrying off in the undergrowth.
Ajakasi was left all by himself; it was getting dark and he remembered how hungry he was, so he too set off back to his hut in the village.
Several days later, very early in the morning, even before the sun had crawled over the horizon, he heard somebody knocking loudly on his door.
Bhoumm Bhoumm Bhoumm! Who is there, asked Ajakasi. But there was no reply. He opened the door, and there stood the lion. Ajakasi was scared to the marrow, and almost threw the door shut again, but the lion raised a paw in greeting. Mr Lion, sighed Ajakasi, you really scared me there! I’m sorry about that, said the lion, I suppose that can’t be helped. I can’t very well turn up here in broad daylight, can I now? Ajakasi had to agree. Well then, said the lion, you did something wonderful for me the other day, you were very brave to help the four of us get out of that pit. So I have come to thank you, just come over here. The lion stood back and Ajakasi stepped outside. There, in front of his house he found a huge pile of wild meat. All for you, said the lion, and wandered off.
Ajakasi was very excited. He sat to work immediately cleaning the meat and cutting it up. He kept some in his hut and took the rest to the city to sell. He got a lot of money for it! A few more days went by, when Ajakasi was woken again by the same noise coming from his door. He opened the door carefully, and found the lion there again. The lion directed him to the usual spot, and there was an even bigger pile of meat! Again, Ajakasi cleaned the meat, cut it up and took it to the market to sell. He got even more money. The remarkable thing was that the lion kept coming back every three or four days to bring more meat. Ajakasi became a very rich man. He could pay his debt, he built a new hut, he bought new wrappers for himself and all his family members He was turning into a very happy man.
Then one day, he noticed a hole in the roof of his new house. Oooh, what is this? He went to inspect and to his surprise he saw a rat peeping through the hole. Aaaii, said Ajakasi, who are you, and what are you doing to my roof, making holes in it? The rat said: Don’t you remember me? I’m the rat you rescued from the pit in the jungle, some time ago now. If it hadn’t been for you coming along I would surely have ended up as supper for the lion or the snake! I’ve come to bring you something to thank you, just wait there a minute.
Ajakasi was left speechless, he watched as the rat disappeared, but came back presently, lugging an enormous sack, which he dropped through the hole at Ajakasi’s feet. Take these things, the rat said, as a token of my appreciation , and then he disappeared as quickly as he had come. Ajakasi, tugged at the sack, and opened it.
When he saw what was inside he almost fainted. The sack was filled with gold, diamonds, emeralds and other precious stones and minerals
Now Ajakasi was almost the wealthiest man in the whole village. Only the chief was richer. It so happened that a few months later thieves broke into the chief’s compound while he was away on a trip. They took everything that had any value. When he returned the chief was soooo sad, he wept for days on end. People came from all over the district to bring him presents and to console him. Ajakasi also went to see him and took some pieces of gold. One day the man who was rescued from the pit by Ajakasi passed through the village and called at the chief’s compound. He asked to see the chief, saying that he had some information about the theft. The chief had him ushered into his private quarters immediately, he was still very sad and tearful, and asked his visitor to tell him everything he knew without stalling. Don’t cry again, nana, the man started, I know who it was who stole all your jewels and your rich kente cloths. Who is that man? The chief shouted. Where is he?
Don’t worry, said the visitor, he is here in the village, it is the hunter Ajakasi.
The chief fell down on his chair. Ajakasi? I don’t believe it, he is such a good man!
The man raised his hand up. Don’t you remember, Oh great chief, Ajakasi was just a poor wretched hunter, but look at him now, he has built a new house, almost as big as your own, he has bought new clothes for himself and all his family, and he never goes out hunting any more, yet he always has plenty of meat on his table. How is he able to do all that…? He is surely the one who stole all your things.
The chief was now very angry. He called some of his soldiers and commanded them to arrest Ajakasi and bring the thief before him immediately. This was done. The soldiers went to Ajakasi’s house, tied him up and brought him before the chief. He was mercilessly beaten. He tried to explain how it was that he had come by his riches, but when he mentioned the lion bringing him meat, the soldiers just beat him more, and when he mentioned the rat bringing him gold and precious metals in a sack, the chief shouted: Enough! Tie him to the stocks, and tomorrow morning we will execute him!
So, Ajakasi was put in the stocks and condemned to death as punishment for a crime he didn’t commit. He realized he would be executed the next morning and there was nothing he could do about it. After darkness had fallen and the last of the village people had gone home, he felt a strange sensation around his ankles. What is this, he wondered, what is going on now? He heard the hissing of a snake, and when he looked down he saw a large snake slithering on the ground in front of him.
I would normally be afraid of you, said Ajakasi, but as I’m going to die anyway tomorrow, I’m not really worried. Well, said the snake, you’re right not to be worried. You probably don’t remember me, but I am the snake you rescued from that pit in the jungle all those weeks ago now. I have come to thank you for what you did.
Oh. It was nothing really, said Ajakasi, but I’m afraid it’s a little bit late. I’m about to be executed! I have been accused of a crime I never committed.
We’ll see about that, said the snake. I have a plan. I have some medicine here, which I’ll hide under your belt. I understand the king has a very beautiful daughter. That’s right, confirmed Ajakasi, she is his only child. Even better, said the snake. I am going to give her a little bite, and poison her. She will surely die, but the medicine in the bottle is an antidote, the only thing that will cure my bite. When you save the life of the king’s only child, he will be forever in your debt, and he surely will not want to kill you any more! With that the snake slithered towards the chief’ living quarters.
Be careful, don’t get caught! whispered the hunter.
As the sun sent its first rays over the eastern wall of the compound, Ajakasi heard some screams coming from the chief’s living quarters. Women were wailing. Ouwooaagh! The king’s only daughter! Owowowow! A snake has bitten her! Owowowow! The snake has run away! Owowowowo! Why is this happening?! Owowowow!
People were running towards the house.
Ajakasi shouted at them: I can bring this girl back to life! A soldier came up to Ajakasi, and shouted at him: Shut up, you’re only a common thief!
Ajakasi pleaded with him: I am sincere, I can really bring the girl back to life, go and tell the chief! The soldier spat at him, and told him again to keep quiet. But as he was running to the chief’s house, the soldier thought to himself: what if the condemned man was telling the truth? The chief would be grateful to him and he would surely be rewarded. He had nothing to loose by telling the chief.
At first, when the chief was told that Ajakasi could bring his daughter back to life, he didn’t want to know. That man is only trying to postpone his execution, he thought. But when he looked at the body of his dead daughter, and saw his distraught wife, he changed his mind. After all, there was nothing to be lost, and everything to be gained. You never know what secrets these hunters learn in the jungle. So he ordered his soldiers to cut Ajakasi loose and bring the man to him.
When Ajakasi got to the dead girl’s bedside, he asked for a bowl and some water. He poured in the medicine that the snake had given him, and stirred it with his fingers until it was well mixed into a smooth sauce.
This he mopped up with a piece of plain cotton cloth, and he squeezed the liquid into the dead girl’s nostrils. The chief and his wife and all the soldiers were watching his every move. Ajakasi knew very well that if the girl didn’t revive he would be dead on the spot.
But the girl twitched her nose. Itchee! Itchee!
She sneezed! The chief shouted: She sneezed! Slowly the girl opened her eyes, and the chief jumped up and down for joy. The girl’s mother rushed to her side and the soldiers started to dance. The girl spoke to her mother: mommy, where am I? I’m hungry, can you get me some fufu?
Ah, the chief and his wife were so excited! A servant brought in some fufu with a wonderful soup, and the girl ate everything.
Ajakasi was carried shoulder high all around the village. When things quietened down a little the chief sent for him.
Ajakasi, the chief addressed him, you have done me a great service, the greatest possible service, so I am going to save your life. But you must tell me, honestly and without lying, why did you have to steal all my property.
Ajakasi replied: O my great chief, I really didn’t steal your property, as I’ve been trying to tell everyone. He then told the chief his remarkable story, what had happened in the jungle, how he found the lion, the snake, the rat and the man in the pit and how he got them out. How the lion thanked him by bringing him meat, which he sold at a great profit; how the rat brought him gold and diamonds and other precious minerals, some of which he sold and got even more money for.
But his fellow human being thanked him by getting him into trouble. If it had not been for the snake coming to his rescue at the last minute, he would not be standing here to tell his tale.
The king was astonished by the tale. He apologized to Ajakasi for not believing him and he ordered all his possessions to be restored to him. To show the chief he did not harbour any grudges, Ajakasi organized a big feast, which went on long into the night”. Okoro finished at last.
“You are the best storyteller papa. The gods really gave you the wisdom in storytelling”, Ogbanje said cheerfully as her sisters nodded their heads in unison.
“So what do You learnt in the story?” Asked Okoro to his daughters.
“I learnt that we should not be greedy”, Uzochi responded immediately. Okeke nodded his head
“I also learnt that we should never be jealous of one another”. Okoro nodded his head again.
“And what of you Ada?”
“I learnt we should be helpful to one another”, Ogbanje said
“And most importantly we should learn how to Love one another”. Okoro said pleased with his daughters answers and finally bid them a good night rest.
“The greatest wrestler of our time, the one whose blow would kill a living Lion with a single punch. What brings the greatest of greatest to my humble home today”, said Okoro as he shower praises on Omekannaya. His son Obinwanne was nodding his head in pride. Four of their guards were behind Obinwanne also their head were swollen with pride like a peacock. Different assorted layers of clothes, tubers of yams, palm wine were kept in front of Okoro.
Omekannaya cleared his voice and said with a rich voice “Okoro, you know if a toad is seen running during daylight, then either something is chasing the toad or the toad is chasing something”, Omekannaya said.
“Well said Omekannaya but that hasn’t answer my question and you know it”. Okoro said with a smile on his face.
“True. Anyway, my son here, Obinwanne, told me that he saw a beautiful flower planted here that he would love to settle down with”. Omekannaya said happily to Okoro.
“I still don’t understand you my friend, please elaborate more on that”.
“…”, Omekannaya was interrupted by his son.
“What my father is trying to tell you is that your daughter has found favour in my eyes”, Obinwanne said this time.
“That is very good. Well, It is every parents dream and joy to be alive and see their children get married. But you know I have only three beautiful daughters, so I don’t know the one Obinwanne is speaking off”. Said Okoro.
“It is no other person than your first daughter, Ada”. Omekannaya told Okeke.
“Well”, clears his throat, “That’s good also, but I can not make nor can I decide for my daughter, Ada. You will have to ask her yourself, if she agrees or not, it depends on her”. Okoro said in wisdom.
“You said well Okoro”. Said Omekannaya.
“Let me call her out so you can tell her yourselves. Ada! Ada ooo!!”.
Ogbanje’s voice filled the air “Yes papa”.
“Please come out quickly”, Okoro said as Ogbanje stopped whatever she was doing inside and rushed out to meet her father.
“Father, you called me”. Said Ogbanje as she greeted the people with her father.
“Yes my daughter. Ehmm Ada, my friend here Omekannaya said his son, Obinwanne, wants to get married to you. So I called you here so that you can give an answer to his proposal”.
Turns to look at Obinwanne in abysmal “Do I know you? How can you just come and ask me to marry you when we don’t even know each other?. What am I even saying self, I do not even know you and I won’t marry you so don’t come here and start telling my father rubbish. This is aberrant and I do not like it”. Ogbanje hissed at them angrily.
Omekannaya seemed surprise at the out burst of Ogbanje. “Ada, we are not quarreling neither are we fighting eh. I only came here to seek your hand in marriage for my son Obinwanne”.
Ogbanje grow annoyed by the second, her nose flared in anger.
Meanwhile, Obinwanne was busy smiling at Ogbanje, the more she grew angry the more he fall deeply in love with her.
He clears his throat prompting Ogbanje to stop and look at his direction.
“My jewel, ola mu, achalugo, it hasn’t gotten to that extend for you to raise your voice at my father, your future father-in-law and for the records, you will soon become my wife”.
“I see you are so full of yourself, nonsense”, said Ogbanje as she turned to her father, “Papa, I was doing something inside the kitchen so since I have made myself clear, I will head back to the kitchen now”. Ogbanje said as she left their presence.
Okoro turned to face his visitors. “You have heard from the horses mouth itself”. Okoro told his guests.
“That little girl has the guts to talk back at me and reject my proposal”. Obinwanne told himself that night as he strode the frontage of his hut in thought. “She must be mine at all cost, that maiden must be mine. I will do everything to get married to her”.
“I am going down to earth to dwell among the mortals soon and get married to the beautiful maiden that my heart beat for”. Ikenga told Aku and the rest of the little gods that serve him. “But I will need a plan, a plan that will make Ogbanje like me. A plan that will make her mine”. Said Ikenga.
He has to be prepared, for he know what Amadioha can do. He only hope he doesn’t involve Njoku ji into this.
“Njoku ji, I need your help”, Amadioha said to his brother in his aboard as Njoku ji turns to look at his brother whom he hasn’t seen for a long period of time.
“What is it again Amadioha my beloved brother. You know I am a peaceful god who doesn’t stir up a fight without knowing the cause of it”.
“It’s about Ikenga, he has bitten more than he chew and this time around, I will pour out my venom on him”. Amadioha said finally.

Sometimes In life, our wishes gets the best of us, challenges are what makes life interesting and overcoming them is what makes life meaningful, death is not the most tragic loss in life, the most tragic loss is what dies inside while you’re still alive, and lastly expectations are dangerous.. I know all this cause I actually feel them.
After that evening with Naomi, she left leaving me to feel bad for myself and I ended up falling asleep without eating Dinner.
“Samantha!!” I heard my name.
“Sammie..” I heard it again and my eyes flutter open.
“mom!. What are you doing here?” I asked sitting on my bed.
“Beatrice told me you slept without eating dinner and I brought you some even though to late” my mom said quietly and I glance at my phone to check the time but it wasn’t on, so I forgot about it, my mom smiled gently as me and handed the tray on her hand over to me.
“C’mon eat, you’ve been getting really skinny” she said with a worried tone and I rolled my eyes. Since I didn’t want her to worry much, I started to eat, I didn’t have an appetite but I had to force myself.
“Samantha, I’m sorry” my mom said.
“you should be” I muttered.
“I’m sorry, for pushing you and controlling you to be who you’re not supposed to be and I rea–
“mom..” I cut her off “it’s okay don’t remind me”
“if there’s one thing I know is this”.. “forgive others not because they deserve forgiveness, but because you deserve peace, and I need peace.. forgiveness is not something we do for other people, we do it for ourselves to get well and move on” I tell my mom and she sniffed and pulled me in a warm hug, “oh honey, I’m so sorry” she said.
“it’s okay” I said.
After eating my mom took back the tray and I laid on my bed again, I looked at the time and it was ten thirty (10:30pm) I sighed and before I knew it I fell asleep again.
The next morning I woke up feeling a little energetic unlike yesterday and after my morning run, I had a splendid shower, put on my uniform, ate breakfast before having Evans drive me to school.
I got to school and made my journey to class, I got to class and sat on my seat, everyone was busy talking to each other since there was no teacher In the class, and I didn’t want to talk to anyone but I didn’t know when I got on my seat and walked up to Tracey who was talking to a girl beside her, seeing me she said something to the girl and she smiled and left.
“hey,” I smiled.. .”hi” she said in a whisper and looked away.
“I…i. I’m not here to say anything bad, I’m just here to apologize” I tell her.
“before you say anything” I cut her off.. “I just want you to know that I am sorry for everything I’ve said or done to you and I really wish..we could talk again cause I really miss you” I rushed the last part and she giggled.
“ditto,..” she said and stood up “I really feel the same way, it’s not my intention to be this way to you but I kind of have to cau-
My sudden hug stopped her from talking and I could feel her smiles from my shoulder “it’s okay, as long as you added ditto, you don’t have to say anything else” I tell her and we both released from the hug … “I didn’t know you’re this nice” Tracey laughed.
“don’t joke with it, it only comes once in a blue moon” I laughed too. The English teacher walked in and everyone groaned while I walked back to my seat. After learning a lot that morning it was time for lunch break and honestly I wish I could keep learning cause this few days, I’ve been loosing my appetite. “hey” someone growled behind me making me flinch and turn immediately.
“James!!” I yelled and held my chest. “you scared me!” I added.
“sorry” he laughed
“so…? You going out for lunch break?” he asked.
“why not, I mean aren’t we supposed to eat to live?” I said sarcastically and he laughed.
“well then let’s go eat and live together” he said and placed his hand in front of me and I gently placed mine on top of his with a smile and we both walked out.
We both ordered our food and went to a table at the center of the cafeteria, but I just couldn’t eat, it was so noisy that my head start to spin it was like the noise was about me, it was like everyone’s talking about me.
“are you okay?” James asked. But I shook my head negatively.
“I can’t seem to find myself hungry in here” .
“okay, well they’re other places you can quietly eat where no one will bother you” James said.
“the classroom, the gym, the auditorium and the school garden” James replied .
“the school has a garden?” I asked.
“yeah at the back of the second building” he replied.
“no wonder I always see a wide empty area at the schools map not knowing what it was” .
“students aren’t there and Esther’s the watch lady, don’t worry if she finds us there I’ll threaten her with her big sleepover and she won’t report us” James said and I smiled and gave him a flirty eye roll.
We both left for the school garden and a small wow, escaped my lips and I smiled, it was magical, like that of fairytale stories, it was greenish, breezy and has this strong smell of dew and leaves and it made my non hungry mouth, hungry. There was a long bench at the middle of the low trimmed grasses and I walked up to it and sat down. James walked up to me and sat beside me and we both quietly start to eat, James finished his food in a jiffy and start to drink his box of milk, he bought like three boxes of milk.. “is it skimmed milk?” I asked.
“nope, the one that gives you a lot of fat” he said and I nod and chew hard on my burger.
“but you’ve been taking it and you’re not getting any fat, shouldn’t you visit the doctor” I said playfully and he playfully glared at me.
“that’s not something I should worry about, I’m not destined to get fat I just take them cause it helps me think, milks are like drugs to me, just as you are to me now” he said sulking a whole lot of milk in his mouth. and I almost cried at his romantic statement, I couldn’t help but get flushed at that so I pretended like I didn’t hear a thing.
“have you tried taking chocolate milk, cake or chocolate candy bars. I heard it’s good for adding to your–
“I’m not trying to get fat Sam, I love the way I am” James cut me off.
“I’m sorry have you looked at yourself in the mirror lately?” I asked and rolled my eyes
“yep, I still look as charming as always” he beamed. But it’s true.
“show off to any other girl, for a boy, you’re too skinny I mean take a look at Kaden for example he’s not skinny like you he’s fleshy and full of boyish meat unlike you” I said and James scoffed, “if you want to date him just say it don’t use skinny as an excuse” .
I rolled my eyes at James for saying that and continued, “I mean under his shirt I’m sure they’re a lot of breathtaking packs that will make girls for to their knees” I said with seriousness to get James angry but he didn’t seem affected by it.
“I’ve got packs too six of them” he said boastfully opening his second box of milk.
“six packs??, are you sure they’re packs or your ribs?” I asked and he sighed, “gosh that hurts” I laughed.
We both remained quiet and with a small smile still on my lips and as I shoved my straw inside my juice box and start to sulk the pineapple juice inside it, James breathed out loudly before saying.
“you know I didn’t like you at first, cause you’re always pestering and disturbing that it made me disliked an you, and with all Kaden was saying about you, but then I suddenly saw through you and saw this sweet lovely Sam who just wants a life like everyone else but was very different from everyone else and the way you confessed your feelings was shocking to me at first but If I think about it sometimes I just laugh cause it wasn’t just funny it was sweet, I wasn’t supposed to like you Sam, but I did cause you’re a real charmer, you got me and I’ve never liked someone my whole life” James smile and I slowly turned to him.
What does he mean by he wasn’t supposed to fall for me.
“James you really are f–
“Samantha..” he cut me off “I really…. really like you even though it’s bizarre but I do, I like it that I do but I also hate it but I can’t help it, our deities once fell in love and it doesn’t matter who they fell in love with cause the feeling’s there but In this century it matters,” ..
I don’t know why James is saying all this and somehow it made me scared, when the person you’re dating start to say things like this, it only means one thing, they’re diagnosed with a horrible disease and they want to break up. So I asked.
“James, are you alright?”
“what are you talking about I’m perfectly fine” he smiled,
“really?” I said and my voice shook. He nods and I sighed,
“you saying all this is making me scared and it somehow felt like you’re about to break up with me” I said, but he just stared at the grasses not saying anything..
“James..” I called for his attention and he turned to me. “can we… Kiss?” he asked slowly as he turned to me.
“why are you suddenly acting this way?” I asked, normally if he wanted to kiss me he does it on his own free will but now he’s asking for my permission.
“because nothing lasts forever we better live in the moment” he added leaning close to me but I stood up.
“if you’re going to continue like this I’m leaving” and was about to go but he pulled me back.
“I’m sorry.” he said and stood up too.
“so you’re coming over to my house this Saturday right?” he asked with a smile. “Yeah, wait why again?” I asked.
“for our project in history” he said and I nod, “yeah right” I nod and grabbed my tray.
“you’re done eating, I’m done too so let’s just go back to class” I said and he nods and we both walked back to class,
I didn’t really pay attention in class because of James words earlier, why was he saying all those things, he acted really weird and that was scary.
** Fast forward **
School was over and we all went to drama class, everyone acted their scenes perfectly even Victoria and the drama teacher gave her a small nod when she was done acting.
When it was the time for James and I to do the kissing scene, I noticed James strange behaviour like when am a princess I promised to kiss him so he could be prince again and not a frog and when I kissed him lightly on his lips he wanted more.. But I withdrew quickly we earned a small applaud and the drama teacher told me the kissing didn’t have to be real but he didn’t mind it being real.
I said goodbye to James before getting into my limo.
I got home and took a shower and I couldn’t just stop thinking about my James I was seriously worried that I didn’t pay attention during dinner and I received a few worried questions from my mom.
That night I decided to watch TV and turning it on it gave a great highlight to our living room cause I’ve never turned the TV on, it was my first time, I turned on my phone hot-spot and the TV’s Wi-Fi and streamed the internet for movies, I spotted like three interesting ones and clicked on the first one. and watching movie from TV is better than watching it from a laptop, my mom met me watching TV but she just passed me by and it helped me took my mind off James a little.
But the memory of James came back when I was about to sleep… But thankfully I manged to fall asleep.
The next morning I was surprised I wasn’t woken up by my alarm but Beatrice told me it was Saturday and I insanely laughed at myself for not knowing that. I ate breakfast and told my parents I’m going over to a friend’s house for our history project.. “is it James?” my mom questioned when I told her
“yes” I replied
“okay be home early” she said.
“I’m also going to a sleepover” I tell her
“what? You and Naomi can have one here” she suggested.
“mom please!” I said and she sighed and gave in, “make sure you invite Naomi too” she said and I rolled my eyes “sure” I said before walking away.
Evans drove me to Jame’s residence and seeing me he smiled and open the door wider for me to walk in, I met six guys in his living room and you’ll know they’re all related to James cause they have the same face features but James’s the prettiest.
“hi” I wave at them.
“is this the Cinderella?” one of the guys asked and another one nod.
“nice to meet you Samantha” the guy who nodded winked at me and I smiled. “nice to meet you t–
“ignore them sam” James said as he dragged me upstairs.
James slammed the door to his room and I turned to him immediately.
“brothers.. Yeah” he interrupted me and I smiled.
“how do they know my name” I asked sitting on his bed.
“the last time you came here three of my brothers met you and they wondered who you were cause you suddenly walked passed them without saying hi and then they started to call you Cinderella”. James explained and I giggled.
“okay well I’ve gotten everything ready, we have to get somethings done and get ready for Esther’s sleepover” James said and I nod and took off my jacket.
We both got really busy with our project, I got to wear an apron and rubber gloves cause I was dealing with paint and glue, James brother didn’t allow us to concentrate cause they kept barging into his room and each of them either handing me hot chocolate or orange juice and I couldn’t say no cause they held such beautiful smile when giving it to me.. James wasn’t just handsome he was creative, I sat on his bed and watch him paint Jupiter very carefully. He noticed me watching him and he shyly smiled.
“don’t fall me too much” he said.
“why? Aren’t you worth falling for?” I asked and his smile faded.
“no” he muttered.
“what.. You silly boy, like you don’t know you’re the most handsome b–
“can I tell you something?” he asked.
“sure go on” I gesture my head giving him a go.
“no not now, when I’m done painting” he said and I nod “I’ll be waiting”.
James was done painting and we both washed our hands and set the five planets we’ve created beside his window for the afternoon sun and breeze to dry them and we’ll do the other ones later.
James seemed to be enjoying the hot chocolate his brothers brought for me and I giggled.
“and I thought you only love milk, looks like I was wrong”.
“hot chocolate and hot afternoon go perfectly well you can feel your blood ignite” he said and I rolled my eyes.
“so.. About the ‘thing’ you said you were going to tell me” I reminded him and he sighed and dropped the mug of chocolate..
“gosh I’m nervous” he muttered and stood up. “Samantha keeping this from you is just going to make me commit suicide one day so you have to know” he sighed.
“know what?” I asked.
“that.. That I’m not a guy,” James breathed out.
“Huh?” I moved my head forward.
“I’m a girl” he added.
“I’m sorry but can you speak actual words” I stated angrily.. “I’m not a guy Sam, I’m a girl, you’ve been dating a girl” he said and I laughed bitterly.
“if this is a new method of breaking up with girls then it sucks” I huffed.
“I’m not trying to break up with you, well I am but I don’t want you to get hurt but don’t you see it?” he asked and moved his hair back and I almost cried of how beautiful he looked. And for the first time I saw a girl in him.
“did Tracey poison your mind to break up with me did she give you this idea??!!!” I yelled and he groaned and walked to his door slammed it close and locked it. “fine, then I’ll prove it to you” he said and I looked at him from head to toe. Why??!!
“I’ve always been putting on chest binders.. He said as he unbutton his shirt and I just stood and watched him not wanting to believe my eyes and ears.. my body shook strangely, when my teary eyes laid on his.. Or her chest that was pressed with a grey colored chest binder.
“Ja… Ja.. Ja.. I couldn’t speak and I suddenly fell to the floor.. How could it be
“I’m sorry Samantha” he said kneeling in front of me,.. “no.. No this is a dream right?” I cried as my eyes met his.. “I’m sorry” he gasp.
“but why.. Why..” I cried.
Why did he have to pretend to be a boy and why did I fall for him and I’ve been dating girl, how could this be.. I cried even more when he hugged me but I pushed him away.
“you made a fool out of me!! Why didn’t tell me!” I yelled
“I’m sorry I wanted to but I started to like you” he said not looking at me.
“you started to like me? If you really liked me you would have told me sooner!” I sobbed and stood up, ..
“people like you should rot in hell” I said and walked passed him… “Samantha I..
“I wish I never spoke to you” I cut him off.
“and James.. James.. Is that even your real name?” I sob as I stare at the door.
“it’s.. Janice” he muttered lowly and his or her.. I don’t even know what gender to feel in.. This is annoying, it’s killing me!!
“well Janice, I hope to never see you again” I said and walked out.

“Sam..” James called
“I have to tell you something” he added .. “okay.. Go on” I said and glanced at Tracey who was looking at James attentively.
“actually Sam I… I’ve been wanting to tell you this” james said lowly and I smiled “take your time”.
“I want you to go on a date with me” James rushed his words and I giggled.
“James..?” Tracey glared at him.
“what’s your problem Tracey” James snarled.
“my problem is you dating her, tell her or I show her” Tracey ordered and I stare at the both of them wondering what’s going on.
“look I’m gonna tell her but not today and not now okay?!!” he said to Tracey and then tired to me.
“Sam.. I’ll be back”
James said and dragged Tracey out of the class.. “what do you think they’re going to talk about?” I asked Victoria as I watched them walk out of the class
“w..w.who k..knows??” Victoria stutter and I turned to her Victoria never stutters.
“I’m sorry do you know something?” I ask her.
“me?” she grinned.
“yeah, you’re the only one sitting with me and the only person I’m talking to so who could I be talking to if not you” I narrowed my eyes at her and she laughed nervously.
“oh Sarah you’re so funny” victoria laughed and my jaw dropped slightly. “I didn’t say anything funny and when did my name turn to Sarah?” I asked and she stood up immediately.
“hmm.. I smell muffins, I’m starving let’s go eat lunch together” she said and dragged me up. She’s sure acting weird since I wasn’t in the mood to question her anymore I let her drag me out of the class. We both walked out of the class and I bumped into James with my head hiting his chest.
“ouch.. That hurt” he said dryly and he saw me and smiled.
“sorry” I apologized and he laughed.
“I’m giving you till Friday James, Friday!!” Tracey barked at James before walking into the class.
“sure thing mom” James said sarcastically and Tracey turned and gave him a small glare.
James, victoria, and i ate lunch together and I “kind of” missed molly not seeing her or eating with her. And left me wondering where she was but I later realised she’ll be with Tracey.
While we’re eating Esther walked up to us and sat down beside Victoria, she said hi to the three of us and I was the only who replied Her cause James and Victoria were having a mouth full.
“so finally, I’m a little free from school’s president stuff and to celebrate, I’m having a sleepover and I’m inviting all my very good friends” Esther said and Victoria turned to her. “really?” she said with her mouth full.
“I’m muff spleefova.” victoria tried to speak and ended saying a bunch of messed up words and Esther passed her a bottle water and she took it from Esther and gulped it all down.
“I love sleepovers” Victoria corrected her self.
“that’s why I’m inviting you first, and you and you” Esther smiled referring the you and you to James and I.
“I’m not coming.” James said.
“what why?” Esther asked sadly.
“no reason, I’m not coming” Jame’s replied and Esther held his hand which made me glared at it a little bit which made James slipped his hand out of her grip.
“C’mon.. James.. It could be like old times, I’ll even invite Kaden and Lucas too.. Please James” Esther begged but James shook his head negatively.
“why aren’t you going?” I asked him.
“like I said no reason, I just don’t want to go” James said and I blinked rapidly. “I’m going and you’re going too” I stated and James sigh “whatever”.
“what’s this, I invited you and you said no, she ordered you and you agreed is she your girlfriend or what?” Esther rolled her eyes.
“you can say that again” James scoffed, Esther gazed at me a little. before turning back to Victoria.
“okay, it’s sweet you three are coming, I have to go invite the others” Esther said and walked away.
“it’s been ages since we all had a slumber party together, I think it’s going to be awesome” Victoria suggested.
“I think it’s going to be boring” James added, while I just ate my food thinking about nothing but the slumber party.
Lunch break was over and we all went back to class. Our history teacher came and he said we should get ready and start to prepare our project cause it’s remaining three week before the semester ends, I kind of registered late.. Well it’s not bad I’ll still have my final year and prom here but till next year…
After that we had biology and then art before school was finally closed, as I packed my books inside my bag, Catherine walked passed me not knowing my foot was in her way she tripped and almost fell, I don’t know how blind she is but she should have looked harder. I mean how could she not know.
“bitch, you did that on purpose didn’t you?” Catherine huffed.
“or you actually did that on purpose so you could find a way to take it down with me” I said and she glared at her.
“you bitch, apologize?” she yelled gaining a small amount of attention from different angles of the class.
“I’m sorry” I smirked. And carried my bag, she seemed a little bit amused by my apology and I slowly walk up to her
“address me as bitch again, and I’ll show you what bitches feel and act like” I threatened and walked up to James, one thing about girls like Catherine is that they look for that little frightened part of you and then take advantage of it and the next day you get bullied, and then the next day and the next day and that’s how your life ends, peer pressure. But if you stand up to your height and give them a taste of their own medicine they’ll be the frightened one, when some one is actually prettier than them or smarter than them, they find a way to crush that person, I’ve already crushed myself and I don’t need another damn crusher.
“ready?” I asked James.
He nods as he flipped his bag over his shoulder and we both walked out of the class together.
We got to drama class and the drama teacher suggested we rehearse first and we got everything right, we gained applause for our wonderful acting and the next set acted theirs and was applauded also, but the drama teacher had to yell when it was the scene of where Victoria and I are having the mother and daughter talk. Victoria kept mixing up Her words and that made me laugh a bit and the drama teacher yelled at us countless of times, but he calmed down when he noticed Victoria was just nervous and he told me to stop laughing.
Drama class was over and the drama teacher told me Victoria and three other girls who looked kind of familiar, to stay behind and clean the stage. I tried to tell him I did great in all my scene and he agreed but reminded me of my scene with Victoria and i gave in and stayed behind, James wanted to stay too and help me clean but after telling him not to worry and after receiving yells from our drama teacher to go home, he gave me a heart-throbing smile before leaving.
“I’m tired” Victoria whined as she picked up the broom-stick and shoving it inside the hole of the broom, “you haven’t even cleaned a single thing” I tell her and she sighed. “I know! thinking about it is making me more weaker” Victoria said and I laughed,. “don’t be a lazy bed and let’s clean that place, look at those girls they’re on fire” I said and Victoria turned to look at the three girls who were busy cleaning without any distraction. “okay you go ahead, I’ll be with you in a minute” Victoria said, and her voice echoed. I shook my head negatively and pulled her. “C’mon”.
“seriously Sam, I’ll be there”.
“be where?, we’re already there, just start cleaning” I giggled.
“no buts, if we clean in time we’ll go home earl––
“yea she’s so rude” I was interrupted by one of those three girls saying that and I had a feeling they were talking about me.
“excuse me?” I said to them and they turned to me.
“what?” one of them said.. “are you just talking about me just now?” I asked to be sure. I hate back blabbers.
“it’s you, and what are you going to do about it?” another one said and I scoffed. “I remember I don’t owe any of you girls money”.
“she’s the Samantha right?” one of the girls at the back whispered to the one in her front. “yeah” the front girl whispered .. “she’s still as rude as they say” the one at the back said and I breathed in.
“you’re just like everyone is saying rude selfish and Proud, people like you are meant to be g–
“hold on there cupcake” I said to the girl talking she had black long hair and she stood beside the girl in front. “you and I don’t know each other neither have we ever talk so what’s with your choice of words” I asked angrily.
“your friend didn’t want to work and yet you were still pressuring her Isn’t that wickedness?” the girl with black hair said and I scoffed.
“you’re not her and she’s not you and–
“she wasn’t pressuring me so it’s better if you guys mind your businesses” Victoria interrupted me and the girls looked a bit astonished by that but the one at the back huffed and they all mind their business , “looks like she bewitched Her friend” I heard one said but I ignored them.
“you know what, let’s start cleaning and go home early” Victoria said and I nod and we both did.
Evans drove me home and when I got home, I took a long bath that my skin started to get wrinkles. I wrapped a towel around my body and walked into my room to see Naomi on my bed, with my laptop and seeing me she dropped it.
“hi” she smiled at me.
“hey, when did you get here?” I smiled back.
“a few seconds ago, I came back from school and I was bored so I decided to come here, maybe you have something interesting to tell me?” Naomi smiled but I shook my head negatively..
“what were you doing with my laptop?” I asked. “I was just checking the web for stuffs interesting” she replied with a nervous grin.
“then why’d you stop?” I asked.
“I thought you’d be mad seeing me with it” she sighed
“well I’m not, you should totally continue with whatever you’re doing” I smiled.
“really?”.. She looks surprise. “yeah”.. She smiled happily and grabbed my laptop.
After wearing a white T-shirt and a short mini jeans skirt, I sat down in front of my dressing mirror and from the drawer beside it, I pulled out my hair dryer, I plugged it in and started to dry my hair. Naomi suddenly stood up and took the dryer from my hand “let me help” she beamed.
“thanks” I said. We both remained quiet as she dried my hair, and then looking at myself in the mirror I asked.. “Naomi, am I rude?”
“what?..tch.. no..” she said and rolled her eyes and I grabbed the hair dryer from her and turned it off dropping it on the drawer,
“tell me the truth, am I rude?” I asked again as she sat down on the bed opposite me.
“well..well.. A little bit” she whispered. Who’s she whispering to
“really?” I asked to be sure.
“well a lot” she added and my brows arched. “everyone says, I’m rude selfish and proud is that true?” I asked again but she gave no reply…
“Naomi…. ” I called and she sighed.
“well… yeah,” she said and stood up. I breathed in trying to sulk in my heavy tears, have I really been that bad. I covered my face with my palm and cried lightly in my arms.
“oh my god, I seriously didn’t mean to make you Sam, I’m sorry” Naomi said as she knelt in front of me and I pulled her in a tight and cried even more.
“I’m sorry” she said guiltily.
“I’m sorry if I haven’t been good to you, I’m sorry it’s taking me just now to grow up, I’m really sorry” I sniffed.
“it’s okay, if you haven’t been good to me I would have gave up years ago of being friends with you but I liked you for you that’s why I’m still here” Naomi said and I hugged her tightly.. I’ve been blind to see that I’ve been blessed with a good friend….
when i was little my mom took me to this children summer funfair and every kid there wanted to talk to me but my mom said I should not talk to them cause they were not up to our class that they’re just dirt and I stood side by side with my mom even though I wanted to talk to them badly and Naomi was among then, she was dressed in all yellow except her shoes which were pink exactly like mine and I was dressed in all pink, every mother had to let go of their child and let them have fun their selves and when all the children were all alone no one wanted to talk to me because of the way I treated them but then Naomi walked in front of me as I watched the children play together without me. I remembered the first words she said to me.
“hey we’re wearing the same shoes”
After those words we became friends I thought I we would never see each other again after that day but we ended leaving so close. As we grew up my mom couldn’t separate us and then I snapped and became this girl everyone hates but still Naomi loved me for me and I love her more..
