THE GIRL HE MARKED Chapter 20

I stepped out of the bathtub, letting the water on my body fall to the ground. I had one towel tied around my chest and the another vigorously on my hair.

I got to my room, May had already dropped two lace gown on the bed. ” Are those for me? ” I asked, pointing at the gowns.

” Yes. “

I walked to the mirror, applying the lavender oil on my skin. I went close to the bed, taking off the towel from my body as it fell flat on the ground.

I had my bra and panties on, and with May’s help, I pulled myself into the gowns. The red one wasn’t fitted on me so I had the purple one tested.

It was more fitted but…

” Ahh, ” I grunted as she tightened the ropes of the gown. After she was done, I took a look at myself at the mirror, observing how high my breasts has become in the gown.

” Is it supposed to be this way? ” I asked, pointing at my halfway exposed breasts.

” Uhmm… yes, but I can get you something else if you want. “

” Yes, please. Like a trouser. “

She picked a black jean trousers with a navy blue t-shirt. I pulled myself into it, while she helped me with the makeup.

” You look beautiful, Diana. ” She complimented.

An unnoticeable blush painted my cheeks, ” Thank you. “

” Would you mind for a walk with me? “

” Yeah, I’d love to. “

We exited the room, making our way out of the castle. The guards at the entrance door wouldn’t have let me out if not for May.

I understand, they’re only trying to save their neck from their alpha. And hey, I ain’t thinking about running again. I just wanna save my ass too.

” So… ” I started as we successfully left the building.

” So? ” She asked.

” I don’t know, you tell me. “

” Something like what? “

” The pack, of course. Or maybe, why don’t we start from knowing more about you? ” I suggested and she laughed.

” Why do you wanna know about me? “

” Thought that would be necessary. You know, you’re my new maid right, don’t you think we ought to know more about ourselves. “

” Well, ” she started. ” you know my name so I don’t think that’s necessary to begin with. So, I’m not the social type, I mean, I hardly make friends. That’s because I got that annoying trait from my mother, she barely even talk to her neighbor and she always told me that making a friend is like making enemies. “

” Really? “

” I don’t know, that’s what she always told me, then I was eight. I was was just so little to know the truth, so I grew up with those words and here I am, always the shy May Parker. “

” It’s really not your fault for not having anyone to call a close friend, most times our mothers are just trying to protect us from the people around. Just like my mom, ” my voice sounded low, ” she was just so overprotective towards me. I thought she hated me but I was wrong, she was only doing the right thing for me. I was so stubborn to understand her love for me, until I got bitten, then did I know that she was only doing her job. “

I looked at my wrist, ” I even lost my dog in the process. “

” What’s his name? ” She asked.

” Micky, he was just a puppy then. It’s been twelve years I last saw him, who knows if he’s alive or dead. “

” Did he just disappeared? “

” Micky? Nah, he kinda ran away, I’d say. “

” Poor him, I’m sure he misses you so much. “

” I know, and I miss him too. “

” I heard a lot about you. ” She said.

” Me? ” I asked.

” Yeah, I overheard Micheal and Bella talk about you the night you were brought here. “

” What did they say? “

” They said you are a model, I mean, New York’s newest model, is that true? ” She asked.

” What do you think? “

” I know Micheal and Bella won’t lie, and it’s on your face too. You just look more like a model, I’d say. “

I chuckled. ” That’s probably because I put on a makeup. “

” Not just the makeup, you have a nice stature too. “

” How do you know that? ” I asked, trying to assume where she has clearly seen my stature as she claimed.

” You got naked at my front, remember? “

” Oh, ” I said, a bit embarrassed. ” So, are you like them, I mean the wolves? “

” Yeah, ” she replied, looking away.

” Are you alright? “

” Yes, why? “

I shrugged, ” You just look kinda upset a second ago. “

” No, I’m alright. I really am. ” She assured me with a smile.

” How did it happen? “

” The Night Walker pack has been ruling my village for almost a century now. According to history, it’s said to have taken over after the war between the two kingdom. At first, it began as a bait, whoever wins will rule the both kingdom at the same time. It’s a poor thing we lost, and since then whatever decision we make must first be approved by the wolves. “

” Later, that was twenty years ago, they would come to the village to take ten virgins. This always happens every year ending and during that period, everyone are said to be at the village field. “

” What if you aren’t there, like y.. you travelled? “

” You have to return before that day. “

” Is that necessary? Besides, they don’t know everyone’s faces, do they? “

” Werewolves aren’t easily fooled, Diana, they’re more like a higher ranked primates. They’re hundred percent smarter than a normal human being and they can easily detect when one lies, worst still, they’re more like mind readers. “

” Then, I always see them as monsters, and most times the devil himself. But I never knew that humans are the real devil and monster, I saw reasons why I had to believe my mother for not letting me have friends. “

” Why would you say that? ” I asked, curiosity filled in me.

” The humans attacked us, they killed everything that belonged to me. They took my family, burnt our homes and they made us orphans. Because of this, I accepted to become a wolf. I don’t want to keep living in fear anymore, I wanna protect myself from their threat. “

I listened to how painful the words left her lips, I understand what I was to be tortured by your fellow human. I understand what it feels like to lose someone so dear.

Just as they tried to kill me, it’s always everywhere. It’s something more like an inbuilt nature in them.

” So, how does it feels to be a wolf? “

” It feels safe. You’re able to protect yourself, you develop special abilities not even the strongest human can posses. “

” Can you… ” Pointing at her eyes, ” can you show me? “

She nodded. Closing her eyes then opening it, I could see the golden yellow colour of her eyes. It shun almost like a sun, and I felt like staring at it for long.

” It’s… it’s so beautiful. ” She closed her eyes and opened it again, the golden color was gone. ” Can you turn too? “

” Yeah, but only when necessary. “

We heard the sound of car parked, staring at the direction of the car, Bella stepped out. Bella looked at our direction, waving at us, we waved back.

” I don’t know why you hate the wolves, but as long as you stay here, you’ll get to know the real truth about us and… about him. ” she said, referring to the alpha.

I walked through the hallway of the quiet castle, thinking over my previous conversation with May. It’s been four days I’ve stayed here, and I’m still working on getting used to everything here.

I stood outside at the balcony, feeling the cold air in my skin. Why do I feel so comfortable here? Why do I feel a bit home here?

I was staring at the moon that I didn’t know when Bella stood beside me. ” Hey, ” she called.

I flinched at her voice, ” hey, “

” Hope you enjoyed your day? ” She asked me.

” Yes,” I said with a nod.

” I’m happy you’re getting used to the castle, how did you see this place? “

” It’s… so beautiful and the gardens, I love it so much. Can I always go there? “

” As long as you belong here, you’re free to go wherever you want to go as well as do whatever you want to do. This is your home, Diana, your freedom. “

” Can I ask you a question? “

” Yes, sure. “

” Why do I keep hearing howling sound every night, I mean, it isn’t full moon yet. “

She smiled, ” It’s the wolf scout, they petrol the territory against our enemies. Each time they howl, it’s a sign of communication. Do you always get scared whenever you hear it? “

” Honestly, I do. But I’m just trying to get use to it. “

Bella laughed at me, ” It’s okay for you to. Well, I brought this for you. ” She brought out a silver necklace which has a purple diamond shaped structure at it’s middle.

” Wow, it’s so beautiful.”

” Yeah, a friend of mine gave it to me.”

” You must mean special to her. ” I said.

She just smiled, ” I do. ” Her expression changed to a sad one, ” She gave it to me before she died, “

” Oh, I’m so sorry. “

” No, you don’t have to. That’s why I want to give it to you. Everytime I look at you, you remind me of her, I think you deserve this more than I do. “

She wore it around my neck, my hand kept feeling the hard texture of the diamond structure as I admired it’s beauty.

” Thank you. “

” It’s a sign of our friendship. “
