As usual, Valerie had woken up the next morning, prepared and got ready to leave for Jericho’s house.

“Valerie” her mother called when she’d gotten to the sitting room. She was there with her father as well.

“I really don’t get what’s going on. Your birthday’s just a few days from now. Yet, here you are – always leaving the house every morning and returning late at night”

“Well, I’ve told you, mum. I’m working on my face. I can’t have my party with these spots all over me”. She grouse.

“And how exactly are you working on it? Are you going to a hospital? Which hospital is that?”

“Goodness, mum! Don’t worry about it. I’ll be fine, okay? Like I said, focus on the party, and I’ll focus on my face. Bye” she gave her a peck and hurried out of the house.

Getting to the garage, she recalled her cars were still at Jericho’s compound .
Ahh! She couldn’t think of going with another car. Else, she might end up leaving all her expensive cars in the hands of that boy by the time she’s done with his whatever tests.

So, she had to make use of a cab and on her way back, she’d return with one of the car’s .
Oh! Damn it! She really had to make use of a cab! A f**king cab!
Well.. thank goodness it wouldn’t be the first time.

She got out to the roadside and boarded a cab, feeling so grateful none of her rich friends made use of cabs. So, definitely, she wouldn’t meet any of them there. Besides, the scarf she had on was sure to hide her as well.

As she sat in the moving car, her mind drifted to a lot of places.

First, it was Lincoln. He actually didn’t call her the previous night, and neither did he that morning. So calculatively, she hasn’t seen or spoken to him for over 28 hours.
Geez!

She had told Sally about it on the phone and as expected, Sally querried her, telling her to get him off her mind because she’s always suspected he was a flirt.

But Valerie wouldn’t deny getting hurt. She felt she’d really liked this guy and didn’t think anything would be ruining their relationship – anytime soon.

She kept thinking about him and so many others and finally, she arrived at her destination and got off the cab.

She walked slowly on the street leading to the Jericho’s house. She felt a little weak, having so many disturbing thoughts.

And getting to his gate, she noticed something strange.

There was a guy, standing opposite and just staring directly at the mansion. He was dressed in all black, his cardigan cap over his head, almost covering his face.

Valerie was surprised because he was staring so keenly at the house, so focused on it. But the moment he noticed her standing at the gate, he lowered his gaze and walked away.

Huh? That was creepy – she thought and turned to knock.

She had knocked only once before the gateman opened up and let her in.

“Where’s your car, ma’am?” He asked as she walked in, but she only rolled her eyes at him and left.

“Ask your boss” she had wanted to say to him, but quickly restricted herself.
She wasn’t in the mood to be insultive that morning.

She got to the door and knocked and it was Ethan that opened up. Oh.. damn! The grumpy one.

“Good morning” she greeted with furrowed brows when he wasn’t letting her in.
He just stood in between the door, blocking her passage.

“What’re you doing here?” He asked, his voice coming out so cold .

Valerie was almost forced to scoff at his questions.

“Jericho wants me here” she replied instead.

Ethan was silent for a while, just staring at her.

Then, he said:
“I want you to stop coming here”.

Valerie looked at him in awe.

“You’re a distraction to my brother and I don’t like it. I need it to stop”.

“Well sorry, but I also don’t wanna be here. If only you can take these spots off my face, trust me, you’ll never see my shadow – ever again” she said sarcastically and Ethan fumed.

It angered him to know he couldn’t take the spots off because Jericho was the only one with such authority. He really wanted this lady to stop showing her proud face there at their home.

He glared hard at her. And without saying another word, he walked pass her, giving free passage to her. And she went in.
*
She took the stairs and went to Jericho’s room but when she knocked on his door, there was no response.

She knocked and knocked, but still no response. And she decided to go in herself.

She opened the door slowly and went in and surprisingly, she found him sitting on the floor, his arms together like an Arab.

Huh? What’s he doing?

Valerie stared at him in Surprise, observing his face.

His eyes were actually closed, like he was praying.

“Jericho?” She called, but there was no response.

He looked so stiff like he wasn’t breathing and it was kind of scaring the life out of Valerie. Who the hell is this guy?

“Hey. Jericho?” She called again and this time around, his eyes snapped open.
And as they did, it came with a heavy wind that swept Valerie off her feet and she screamed as she crashed on the floor.
