JERICHO’S WEAKNESS Episode 70

“Then, what if I don’t go as a commoner?” Valerie chipped in.
“What if I decide to go as a maid?”

Monhana went mute – for a few seconds.

“I…. I” she tried saying something, but ran out of words.
Go as a maid? Was she being serious?

“Valerie dear, don’t you think that is too dangerous?” She asked, looking really worried.
“What if you get caught or something? Maybe, someone discovers you’re fake and not from Atlancia? Or what If you get caught trying to use the staff? So many things can go wrong, Valerie. And you also told me you didn’t want to see Prince Jericho, right? So, what if he sees you working as a maid in the palace?”

Valerie bent her head in thoughts. That was actually true. So many things could go wrong. But then, she also couldn’t stay there for too long as her Life would still be in danger.

“I just need to give it a try, Monhana” she said. “you said it yourself, if I stay here, my life is definitely going to be at risk. So, I just have to give something a try”.

Monhana sighed tiredly.

“I understand dear, if you say so. I can…. talk to the chief staff for some vacancy at the palace. Then, get back to you”.

“Thank you so much, Monhana” Valerie held her hand.
“I’d be so grateful if this works out”.

“You’re welcome, dear. But you’ll need to be very careful. If you get caught, I’d also be in danger. You know, if anyone gets to know I housed a stranger in Atlancia, I’ll definitely be beheaded”. Monhana said.

“It’s fine, I understand. Even if I get caught, I promise not to mention your name”.

Monhana nodded in approval and they spent the rest of the time, talking about the plan just incase she gets the work at the palace.

“Prince Jericho!”

“Please… please…. I’m sorry! Please!” The man pleaded on his knees, his palms placed together.
“It was a mistake. I didn’t mean to push him off the stairs. Please…!”

Jericho – who was seated beside his father’s throne – stared coldly at him. The darkness reflecting in his eyes only indicating he didn’t have any plans of forgiving him.

“You took another man’s life” He muttered, taking his gaze to his fingers.
“The penalty is death”.

And instantly, the man bursted out coughing as he choked.

He coughed miserably until he was spilling out blood and finally dropped dead on the floor.

“Take care of this mess” Jericho said to the guard beside him as he stood up and left.

#Next_Morning.

Monhana had left very early for the palace because she needed to submit the clothes she’d taken home to wash the previous day.

Valerie had actually assisted her in hand – washing them – courtesy of one of the many ill things Jericho had made her do on earth. She’d assisted Monhana in washing the entire clothes, then sprayed them as well and when they were dried, they folded it carefully into the basket.

Valerie had felt some slight pains on her waist due to the much bending and stretching required by the work, and she didn’t need anyone to tell her the baby was responsible for it. She felt so nervous and deeply hoped Monhana wouldn’t get to notice anything, because she wouldn’t know how to explain the fact that she was pregnant for their prince. It might really cause some troubles and she does want that to happen.

As Monhana was about leaving for the palace the following morning, she told Valerie to keep her fingers crossed and hope there would really be Vacancy. And when she finally left, Valerie had sat down to pray it really worked out.
