Valerie could feel so much excitement as Monhana delivered the goodnews to her.
Whaaat???

“Are….Are you sure?” She asked in surprise, beady eyed.

“What do you mean am I sure? Of course,dear. I’d spoken to the chief, told her my sister’s daughter would want to work here at the palace, and after much consideration, she agreed they actually needed an extra maid in the palace. Congrats, love”.

“Oh! Thank God so much, Monhana. I’ll forever be indebted to you for this. Thank you so much” Valerie beamed, placing her palms together.

“Oh! It’s nothing; you’re welcome. Just make sure you don’t get caught and don’t get me into trouble, okay?”

“Of course, of course. I promise”.

“Good. So, you’ll be commencing tomorrow. Don’t forget your major target here. And also, make sure you try as much as possible to act like us. If anyone suspects a thing and notices you’re not from Atlancia, you’re dead, Valerie. You hear me? You’re dead”.

Fear gripped Valerie immediately.

“I um… will try my best. I’ll make sure I don’t get caught”. She stuttered and swallowed hard.

“Good. Don’t worry, I’ll use the whole of tonight to teach you some of the basic things you need to know. For now, excuse me; need to check up on my daughter” Monhana’ smiled and left.

Valerie exhaled deeply and returned to her seat. Finally, she’s gotten the job. But .. she felt so scared about own thing – working as a maid.

She paused and touched her tummy. Wouldn’t it to be stressful for her condition? She wasn’t used to the hard life and wasn’t so sure she’d be able to cope – especially in her condition.

Although, she’d been able and learn some kitchen work during her time with Jericho on earth, but she wasn’t so sure she could implement it in this her condition and still be alright.

Oh God! She felt so scared and didn’t want to be caught. If only she could get away from this…. Just this once.

Max and his friend arrived at the palace market and had to go through the crowd to where they were headed.

“You didn’t tell me you Wanted to sell that stuff?” His friend – Pete – suddenly asked from behind.

“Just keep quiet Pete, and follow. Okay?” Max stated grumpily and they went on walking.

Well, yes. He was really there to sell the necklace. He was kind of broke and needed some money badly. And somehow, he felt the necklace would fetch him some.

He had a favorite seller and after a long while, arrived at his place.

“Max!” The old man called beamfully as he stood across his table.

“Good day, papi” Max waved.

“Yes, how’re you doing, boy?” The old man asked.

“I’m fine, papi. How’s the business going?”

“Oh! It’s great. You got something for me?”

“Yes ..”
Max dipped his hand into his pocket and brought out the necklace.
“I have this. Need money urgently, Papi”.

The man collected the necklace and took a scrutinizing look at it.
“Hm. Quite pretty” he nodded. “How much do you sell?”

“12 gems” Max answered with a hard gulp and the old man looked at him scornfully.

“Are you joking? 12 gems for this? That’s not possible”. He chuckled.

“But, why Papi? You just said it’s beautiful”.

“Irs beautiful doesn’t mean it’s worth 12 gems. Tell you what, I’ll give you 5”.

“5????” Matt flinched.
“For Helios’ sake! Just 5?? Oh! Come on, Papi. You and I know it’s way more than that”.

“Fine. 6. That’s the highest I can go. If you’re interested, you let me know and I’ll pay you right away. Or you can just check elsewhere”. He dropped the necklace on the table and turned around, pretending to do other things.

“Max” his friend whispered from behind.
“Don’t fall for this old cheat. That necklace definitely has more worth than that”.

Max sighed and turned around to face him.

“Are you sure?” He asked.

“Of course, I am. He’s only trying to cheat you. Did you see the pendant on it? It shouldn’t be less than 10 gems”. Pete replied.

Matt itched his hair lightly and suddenly, his eyes caught the sight of lady staring keenly at him. Not just him, but the necklace.
She was looking at with creased brows like one who was surprised and confused.

Hold on, he knew that lady. She was Lady Sylvia’s bossom friend. Lady Sylvia – Prince Jericho’s fiancee.

But why was she staring at the necklace that way? Did she like it or something?

Well, he didn’t care.

“Sorry Papi, but I can’t take what you’re offering”‘ he turned to the man and said, picked up the necklace and left.
