JERICHO’S WEAKNESS Episode 73

Lady Sylvia could be seen in the room, brushing her son’s long hair. The mother and son looked so much alike; tho she’d have preferred he took after his father.

“Do you like it?” Lady Sylvia asked as she noticed her son playing with the toy his father had given to him of recent.

“Of course, mother. I do” The little boy replied.
His reply meant the world to the young mother as she beamed with smiles and resumed brushing his hair.

“Mother, can we go see father later in the evening?” He asked after some few seconds.
And before Sylvia could give a reply, a knock came on the door.

“Who’s it?” She looked at the direction of the door and asked and it went open immediately with her very good friend – Jalen.

Sylvia scrutinized the look on her friend’s face as she walked in and noticed she wasn’t looking all that elated.

“Hi, Sylvia” she greeted perfunctorily.

“Jalen. Is anything the problem?” Sylvia asked with furrowed brows and curiously, and Jalen shot her son a stare.

“There’s something important I need to share with you” she said.

Sylvia looked down at her son who was still playing with his toy.

“Son, go play at the balcony, okay? I’ll come get you when I’m done”. She cooed.

“Okay,mother” he answered cheerfully, stood up with his toy and left the room.

Then, Sylvia directed her attention to Jalen.

“What is it?” She asked again.

“Do you remember the necklace you had given to Prince Jericho?” Jalen suddenly asked.
“The one he’d taken to that human planet and claimed he lost it?”

Sylvia arched her brow in remembrance. Of course, how could she forget something like that?

That necklace was extremely important to her and she’d given it to Jericho as a symbol of her love and also for better luck and safe return. But unfortunately, he didn’t return with it as he claimed he lost it.

“What about the necklace, Jalen?” She looked at her friend and asked. “Why bringing it up?”

“Well… I think I saw it today in Atlancia”.

Sylvia sprang on her feet immediately, her forehead crumpled up in confusion.

“What’re you talking about?’ she asked with a stern look.
“Jericho lost that necklace during his mission on earth”.

“I know that’s what he said, but now, I’m telling you I’d seen it today in Atlancia – at the market place. Someone was there with it – a….a certain guy. I’m very sure it was it, Sylvia; with the pendant. Unless…. it’s just a coincidence and the guy happens to own the same necklace as yours”. Jalen concluded with a shrug.

Lady Sylvia’s peace and calmness had been tampered with.

Her eyes stared at the floor for sometime as she tried to comprehend what was going on.

“What boy?” She looked up at Jalen again and asked.

“I wish I had an idea , but I don’t know him”. Jalen replied and slowly, Sylvia turned around, going to face the window.

The same necklace in Atlancia? But, how possible? Jericho had told her he misplaced it on earth, and she knows Jericho too well; he’ll never lie to her.

But… what other explanation could there be to this?

NEXT MORNING

Valerie had to get up real quick with Monhana to get ready to leave for the palace. Monhana’s work was just to get sone dirty clothes, she wouldn’t be staying long. But she needed to take Valerie around so she gets acquainted with the palace.

Monhana made breakfast for them both and noticed how Valerie struggled to eat. Well, she didn’t have something better to offer. Unfortunately.

“Make sure you’re extra careful at the palace, Valerie” Monhana said as she got her baskets ready.

“Don’t talk unnecessarily, avoid getting on people’s bad side I wouldn’t want any form of complications, okay? And…. I also think you should change your name. What do you think?” Valerie paused to look at her for a minute.
Change her name?

“I…. I think that’s a good idea. I’ll go with…”

“Fiona” Monhana cut her off.
“Fiona is better. Come on now, let’s go”:
She lifted the basket and turned around to leave when her daughter suddenly stepped out of her room.

She was surprised, and even Valerie turned to look at her.

“Ri…Rika?” She called, noticing her daughter’s eyes were pinned on Valerie.
What’s going on?

“Come on, honey. You shouldn’t be here. Go in and have some rest, okay? I’ll be back shortly”. She hurried to her and holding her arm carefully, started leading her to her room.

Valerie noticed how keenly the lady stared at her. And just when she was about stepping into her room, she waved at her.

Rika let out a light smile; a very faint smile. It was so faint, Monhana couldn’t even notice.

And finally, she went into the room and the door was locked.

“Come on; I wouldn’t want us to go late” Monhana said in a brisk as she rushed back to where her basket was placed and carried it up.
And together, they hurried out of the room.
